Guangxi is a province with high incidence of rabies. The spread of the disease are often affected by lower lever of rabies risk perception, and lack of awareness of prevention and treatment. The health communication in the rural area enables effective control of disease transmission. Popular science films can spread scientific knowledge and make the audience come to realize the importance of disease control. This paper expounds the process of planning and filming the popular science film "Cherish life away from rabies". Due to the film was mainly for the rural public, narrowing the scope for the rural areas is helpful to accurate communication. For the actual situation that public education in rural areas is relatively low, audience perspective was used as the perspective of narrative. The film structure adjustment was based on the villagers’knowledge of the rabies for the better understanding of its content. Commentary copy was written in order of importance and effectiveness. Popular commentary language style was used in this film which could create an relaxed atmosphere. Script content of the actors, dogs, venues, etc. were chosen combined with the actual situation in rural areas. The expression that combined the animation and filming made the film more vivid and intuitive and avoided the feelings of resentment for the horrible lens. Compared with other similar short films, the main innovations in "Cherish life away from rabies" planning and production are following:the target audience of this film is the rural public which is based on the study of rabies in rural areas in Guangxi. The target audience selection is different from other science film of rabies. Audience perspective was used as narrative perspective instead of communicators perspective. Content selection was consistent with the rural public acceptance. For the better understanding of the film, expressions such as lens picture, narration, and background music were adjusted to preference of rural people. We made some suggestions on improving the quality of science films after the filming process as follows. The preparation work, flexible shooting, communication with the villagers, organizing people to watch and discuss in advance, and improving the film content is necessary. It’s important that select the film content and expression according to the audience positioning and narrative perspective which is based on the actual situation and the needs of the audience.
