With the popularity of computers and various mobile intelligent terminals, the learner-centered intelligent tutoring system is finding more and more favor with learners of all ages, which to a large extent has influenced and changed foreign language teaching methods and modes. The intelligent tutoring system has overcome the limitations of traditional teaching mode in terms of space time and environment. Moreover, its functions such as unique personalized learning resource allocation, virtual socialized learning platform, learning effect evaluation are of great help to learners’ proactive, personalized and interactive learning, thus the process of knowledge construction will move smoothly. Many advantages of intelligent tutoring system are able to enhance the efficiency of language learning for learners. Meanwhile, the importance of teaching Chinese as a second language has become increasingly prominent. However, through some research the author found that in terms of its design of model the current foreign language teaching system has several deficiencies as following: 1.Most systems are unable to identify and diagnose learners’ cognitive features, knowledge level and learning styles, therefore fail to provide personalized learning strategies. 2.Lack of the organization of knowledge and intelligent route guidance. 3.Due to Lack of an adaptive testing in learning process, intelligent control is unavailable for learners when they study different units. 4.Due to imperfection in collection, storage and analysis of learning data, and deficiency in testing system, learners can not obtain their learning evaluation in time. In addition to the technical aspect, design flaws are also shown in the teaching aspect as following: monotonous presentation model of knowledge, failure to fully consider the features of learning and teaching Chinese as a second language, inappropriate choice of teaching methods for particular teaching content, building of learning community being ignored. Based on in-depth exploration of constructivism, cognitive flexibility theory and Chinese language learning and teaching theory, combined with comparative analysis of English-Chinese intelligent tutoring system the thesis puts forward the design scheme for intelligent Chinese as a foreign language tutoring system.Firstly, based on the summing-up and analysis of various intelligent tutoring systems at home and abroad the thesis proposes research theory and application significance. Secondly, the thesis explores intelligent tutoring systems and related Chinese Language learning and teaching theory. Thirdly, get to know widely used English-Chinese intelligent tutoring system. According to teaching content and comparative analysis of the linguistic elements teaching, language skills teaching and comprehensive multimedia teaching, the thesis explores current advantages and limitations of Chinese Language intelligent tutoring system, and the possibility of advantages of English tutoring system to be applied in Chinese intelligent tutoring system. Lastly, based on the questionnaire survey for learners of Chinese as a foreign language intelligent tutoring system, the thesis applies Chinese as a foreign language intelligent learning and tutoring tactics to intelligent tutoring system, and proposes the overall requirements and detailed scheme for design of Chinese as a foreign language intelligent tutoring system. Meanwhile, the thesis summarizes the trend of Chinese as a foreign language intelligent tutoring system and its application prospects, and proposes follow-up research. The study significance of this thesis lies in its thorough consideration of personal demands for learners, and its proposal for designing and developing full-featured, applicable, individualized Chinese as a foreign language intelligent tutoring system.
