| This paper selects Ta Kung Pao’s reporting contents between May 1914 and July 1916 as main research materials. Focusing on Yuan Shikai’s Imperial Restoration, this paper mainly analyzes relevant reports of Ta Kung Pao about this historical event from 1915 to early March, 1916, as well as analyzing and systemizing the reports nad comments about this event, trying to reproduce Ta Kung Pao’s position and attitude towards, and exploring Ta Kung Pao’s social role in it during the period of time. Researching and analyzing Ta Kung Pao’s activities and their influences during Yuan Shikai’s Imperial Restoration will help us further learn Ta Kung Pao and the social situation beck then. This paper is composed of five parts:The first part is Introduction, which briefly explains subject of this paper’s source, research purposes and significance, as well as the basic framework of this paper;The second part mainly expounds Ta Kung Pao’s formation process. As one of the representatives of bourgeois royalists, Ying Lian, together with the Ta Kung Pao he founded, naturally became an important strength of the royalism. From its initial issue, Ta Kung Pao began its attack on the Empress Dowager Cixi, as well as harsh attacks on the powerful and corrupt officials, gradually forming its own speech features. In the mean time, this papers elaborates on the survival situation of the newspapers during the period of Yuan Shikai’s Imperial Restoration, and analyzes Ta Kung Pao’s living environment back then and thus laying a foundation for the research of its social role.The third part analyzes sociological theory’s role and its features. Through the analysis of the development environment of the press during Yuan Shikai’s reign, combining Ta Kung Pao’s founding purposes and specific activities, this part elaborates on Ta Kung Pao’s positioning in the historical event of Yuan Shikai’s Imperial Restoration from the perspective of sociological theories, as well as expounds the analysis framework;The fourth part unfolds in time sequence. It divides Yuan Shikai’s Imperial Restoration into three periods, which are the preparatory process, publicly proclaiming himself as the king, and the fail of the monarchy. This part also analyzes Ta Kung Pao’s practices in each stage, mainly focusing on Sino-Japan negotiation, Preparatory Session, Alteration of State System and the formation of Anti-Yuan United Front.The fifth part analyzes how Ta Kung Pao practice during Yuan Shikai’s Imperial Restoration. Starting from tracking political landscape, guiding social hot topics and concerning people’s livelihood, this part analyzes Ta Kung Pao’s tendencies and practices during this kind of events, then further concludes that: Ta Kung Pao payed close attention to current events both domestically and internationally during Yuan Shikai’s Imperial Restoration, focused ordinary people’s living standards, criticized Yuan Shikai’s retroaction, and concerned the turbulent social situation of our countries back then. While shouldering historical responsibilities if transmitting social information, Ta Kung Pao appealed that our country becomes stronger and people live in happiness. |
