Study On Expression Of Indoor Space Of Contemporary Painting

Interior space theme painting is not only a custom portrait of the life, but also a carrier that artists express their own ideas and art advocates. Since the end of the 19th century, more and more interior space were taken as carrier to express the main body and the individual thoughts of artists. On one hand, artists tried to re-understand and deconstruct the three-dimensional space by taking "indoor" as the carrier, to build a subjective image space of art thought; on the other hand, they used "interior space", a scene art to express their understanding of history, society, and politics.Since the 1970s, there gradually produced a painting style in Europe and USA. which is different from traditional ones. Artists began to cut techniques, structure in paintings to develop a painting style that is more bold and free in expression. Since then, painting art returned to the public, and easel painting began to revival. After a long time of development, contemporary artists expressed their unique perspectives and understandings in their paintings, and these paintings were more diverse in topics, themes and the way of expression. At that time, "interior space" more frequently appeared in the artist’s paintings, becoming the carrier of expressing artistic conceptions.After a large number of analysis towards contemporary artists and characteristics of their paintings, interior space is roughly divided into four categories:1) the interior space that is reconstructed:overturning the three-dimensional space in traditional western paintings, reconstructing the indoor space according to their subjective consciousness to express artists’ thoughts; 2) the interior space that is narrative:putting stories of different time in the same interior space to embody the narrative style of paintings; 3) interior space of memories:in these works, artists used indoor space as a symbol in memory or history to express art; 4) interior space of metaphor:the interior space in this kind of works are often obscure, but it is a metaphor to society, history and politics from personal view of artists.Through the case study of artists, (the author) sorted and analyzed how did the "interior space" become the carrier for expressing subjective art views. This has help the author get to know more about ideology, artistic principle, and the art spirit expressed by interior space as the carrier, and provides more clear thoughts to author’s paintings about interior space.
