This thesis is about the translation report of the foreign children’s literature. The translation task is the fairy tale named R-T. Margaret and the Rats of Nimh by American writer Jane Leslie Conly. The translator is in charge of eight chapters choosing more than 17000 words as the research object. This report contains five parts. First, it describes the whole process of the translation task including the analysis about the text and its linguistic characteristics. Then the writer selects some difficulties and key points in the translation of children’s literature. Meanwhile, corresponding and proper translation strategies and solutions are adopted to solve these obstacles. Following the case study, the translator chooses the lexical strategies including selection of word meaning, omission, supplement and conversion, repetition and linear interpretation, division and integration, amplification of syntactic strategies. The translator strives to maximise the appeal to readers. Suggestions and reflections on the deficiencies and problems existing in the translation are presented as well. The purpose of this translation task is to fulfil the translation task as requested and expand the excellent foreign works. After that, the writer has a better understanding of what a successful translation project is. On the one hand, an entire preparation for pre-translation and procedure management guarantees the quality of the translation effectively. On the other hand, the translators should timely improve their capacities of language skills, professional knowledge, machine translation operation and project management.
