This report investigates the construction of the interpreter’s multiple-role identity from the perspective of Interpretive Theory, based on the interpreter’s interpreting practices for the Marche Region Office in Shandong, where she has worked for the chief representative of the office in diversified activities since 2014.Taking the Interpretive Theory as the theoretical framework for analysis, this report first introduces the interpretive process as defined by the theory, the concept of sense and sense unit, the cognitive complements and the situational context, as well as the interpreting triangular model that highlights the phase of "deverbalization" of the interpreting process. Then it elaborates on the five most frequently adopted roles by the interpreter in different interpreting tasks, namely a faithful sense conveyor, a proactive and flexible participant, a communication facilitator, a cultural go-between as well as an assistant and consultant. Among the five roles played in interpreting processes, the interpreter found that the role of a faithful sense conveyor is applicable to all interpreting contexts, the role of a proactive and flexible participant is adopted to achieve a better interpreting effect, the role of a communicative facilitator is adopted to facilitate the communicative process, the role as a cultural go-between is adopted to cope with culture-loaded expressions and cultural differences, and the role as an assistant and consultant is adopted to provide additional information and knowledge to the interlocutors so as to reach the communicative goal. The interpreter should not stick to any fixed role, but adjust their roles proactively and continuously in different cultural and communicative contexts. Multiple roles can be played at the same time when more than one above-mentioned situation occurs concurrently.
