Report On The E-C Translation Of Subscription Document For Fund

In recent years, the international business contract has become increasingly important in the international cooperation, along with the rapid development of the international economic and trade activities. The business contract text belongs to the legal text. The legal text is famous for its distinctive specialized words and long complicated sentences and so is the business contract text. They all bring great challenges for the business contract translation.This report is based on one English-Chinese translation project—Subscription Documents for Fund entrusted by a translation company where the author did an internship. Under the direction of Nida’s functional equivalence theory, the report starts with analysis for the translation of words and phrases, namely, it elaborates some commonly used words and phrases in contract text, including technical terms, archaic words, formal words, coordinate structures, and modal verbs. Then the report introduces the translating methods from the perspective of long sentences. Four translating methods are illustrated in this report:translating in original order, translating in reverse order, the method of recasting and the method of splitting. It is sincerely hoped by the author that the translation theory and methods mentioned in this report can provide some theoretical and practical guidance and supports for contract translators.
