Wisdom And Emotion Of Native Soil Society—Research On The Folk "Money Association" In Taizhou

The traditional native soil china is changing in the process of social reform and transformation, folklore under the concomitant new social structure and ideological concept has a certain modernity. Comparing to some slow-developing areas where retain more traditional culture, folk culture of modern rural areas with higher general level of urbanization is more indistinct and easily neglected, particularly the economic folk custom with weaker sense of ritual. In Taizhou, locating in southeast coastal area of Zhejiang province, the custom of operating "money association"(ROSCAs,’hui’) has been prevalent among the folk all along and still full of vitality. However, it is transforming naturally with the social development to acclimate modern society, and social relationship, culture system etc. related to "money association" would be altered as well. By investigating the "money association" in Taizhou to know regional social economy and personal economic life, to observe how modern market economy influence the traditional native soil community from many aspects; through the process of folks using their grass-roots wisdom and power to reconstruct tradition in new situation, we could deeply understand the relationship between people in rural society and their emotion expression, pursuit of life meaning. Personal narrative about their life experience, including historical memory and subjective comprehension is the best shortcut to study people and life empathiclly. This paper investigates "money association" and the custom in a new native soil society, explaining folks’ economic and cultural life by personal telling and feelings.
