The life of Li Tang is scattered in a small amount of ancient books and literature, such as GuangchuanHuaba, Huaji, HuajiBuyi, Tuhuibaojian,Huajian and so on. However, there still exist some problems to be solved in the study of Li Tang, especially about the transformation of Li Tang’s painting style from the Northern Song Dynasty to the Southern Song Dynasty. This paper, which attempts to do a further research on Li Tang, emphasizing that how the thought of literati painting had influence on the transformation of Li Tang’s painting style, discusses from the following three aspects. The first part is about how Su Shi and other literati painters put forward the thoughts of literati painting in the late Northern Song Dynasty, and how it made impact of Li Tang’s painting thoughts. The second part, leading by Emperor Huizong, the Imperial Painting academy of the Northern Song Dynasty was sharing a thought of " prizes literati painter and demeans artisan-painter". As one of the court painters, Li Tang was inevitably affected by this painting thoughts.Third, after the Jingkang Incident, Li Tang moved to the south, through ups and downs, stimulated the Hermit emotion of Li Tang in his deeply heart, which also played an important role on his transformation of painting style.
