A Research On The Cultural Space Of Luoyang Peony Show

Luoyang Peony Show is one of the grandest social folk custom activities in Luoyang City, Henan Province, which has been chosen as the national intangible cultural heritage in 2008. Most of previous researches on Peony are emphasis in economics, management studies, tourism etc. However, this report is combined the literature research with field investigation, and based on the intangible cultural heritage protection theory, to study the Luoyang Peony cultural from the view of folklore. This report also focuses on the flower culture space value to help people realize the connection between the traditional culture and the modern culture, and even the present state of the traditional culture in the developing cultural space. Finally, people will further recognize the value and the role of traditional culture from the social and historical aspect.The content of this research mainly includes three sections:The first section is the history and contemporary presentation of Luoyang Peony Show. It mainly introduces the people’s understanding to peony, Luoyang peony cultivation history, the traditional appreciate flowers customs of Luoyang and three development stages of Luoyang peony Show from the Sui Dynasty to the period of the Republic of China in this particular geographical, historical and cultural environment of Luoyang.The second section is the cultural space preliminary analysis of Luoyang Peony Show. It starts from the concept of cultural space to discuss the content of the cultural space of Luoyang Peony Show and the connection which mainly between the aspects of the exhibition management organization, mainly participate, flowers analysis and other activities, artistic creation, peony auspicious patterns, folk legends etc. In the meantime, it can further analyze the Luoyang peony from cultural space, cultural value, social value and economic value.The last section gives the suggestions of the sustainable development of the Luoyang Peony Show.
