| This paper is a report on a translation project. The source text of the translation is selected from Chapters thirteen to thirty of Pig Boy, which is written by J.C.Burke and published by Woolshed Press in 2011.Pig boy is a crime novel and its target readers are high school students. The main clue in this novel is that a high school student accidently witnessed a murder. The intriguing, finely-written and crafted psychological description in the novel vividly reveals the fear, disturbance and anxiety of the high school student after him witnessing the murder. The novel won Ned Kelly Award in 2012 in Australia. Translating this novel into Chinese can help people do research into the Australia literature.Several problems were encountered in translating the novel, including the translation of the rhetoric, maintaining the language style of the original text and translating some complex sentences. The theory guiding this translation is functional equivalence theory. This report states the applicant of conversion and division translation skills in the process of translation in three respects, vocabulary, sentence and character feature.The writer gains the following experience in the process of translating the novel and solving the translation difficulties:fully understanding the original text is vital for translating a novel. The translation theory is very helpful in translation. Translation knowledge and experience of a translator determine the quality of the translation text. |
