ObjectiveBorderline personality disorder (BPD) is a common mental disorder characterized by a pervasive pattern of emotional lability, impulsivity, interpersonal difficulties, high rates of suicide, high rates of comorbid mental disorders.According to the published studies, nNOS exlf may be associate with impulsiveness, anxiety and depression, and TPH1 A218C may be associate with suicide. To discuss the association between nNOS and TPH1 gene polymorphism and impulsiveness, anxiety, depression and idea of suicide with borderline personality disorder(BPD) in the Han Chinese population.Methods140 Han Chinese males with BPD and 165 controls were examined, all subjects were evaluated by Personality Diagnostic Questionnaire(PDQ-4), Generalized Anxiety Disorder-7(GAD-7), Patient Health Questionnaire-9(PHQ-9), Childhood Trauma Questionaire-28 item Short Form(CTQ-SF), Barratt Impulsiveness Scale(BIS-11) and Self-rating Idea Of Suicide Scale(SIOSS). The DNA fragments of nNOS exlf were measured by capillary electrophoresis with fluorescent detection technique. The DNA fragments of TPH1 A218C were measured by restriction enzyme digestion. Both allele frequencies and genotype frequencies in two groups were compared.ResultsNo significant difference were found in nNOS exlf allele or genotype frequencies when BPD group was compared with controls. According to different nNOS exlf genotypes, BPD group is divided into LL group, SL group and SS group. There is a significant difference among three groups in depression(P<0.05). LSD showed that the LL group and the SL group (P=0.015), LL group and SS group (P= 0.023) have significant differences in depression, LL group and the SL group (P= 0.034) have significant differences in anxiety. No significant difference were found in TPH1 A218C gene polymorphism and impulsiveness, anxiety, depression and idea of suicide with BPD when BPD group was compared with controls.ConclusionsThese results suggested that nNOS exlf polymorphism was significantly associated with depression in BPD. BPD patients with LL genotype showed higher levels of depression. TPH1 A218C gene polymorphism is not associate with impulsiveness, anxiety, depression and idea of suicide in BPD.
