Historical Research Of Xiang Da

Since modern times, Chinese and Western cultural exchanges increased closely.With the introduction of western historiography thought,Chinese traditional historiography began to deconstruct and collision under the impact of “shock and collision”. "The history of communications between China and the west " which was the throwback of "geographical scholars study" and " the history of the northwest " in the late Qing Dynasty,began to derivative as an independent discipline. A group of scholars such as Shen Cengzhi, Chen yuan, Zhang Xinglang, Feng Chengjun, began to work in the studies of the communication between China and the west.Xiang Da is a remarkable representer among of them.Xiang Da was diligent in writing and received quite abundant.He was established in academic circle by "the Chang’an City in Tang Dynasty and the Western civilization, "the history of Sino foreign communications ","the Chinese and foreign traffic Historicity" in Chinese and western traffic science field.He was paralleled to Zhang Xinglang and Feng Cheng Chun,they created the history of Sino foreign communications discipline system together. Later, Xiang Da began working in arranging and compiling the Chinese and western traffic historical series and made an indelible contribution for the development of Chinese and western traffic science.Additionally,Xiang Da also worked in Tunhuanglogy, northwest frontier ethnic history, archaeology science and other disciplines for a long time. He went to Britain,France and Germany and brought back a lot of valuable copy of Dun Huang manuscripts. Through the collation of compilation of Dun Huang scriptures and popular literature directory, he has determined the boundaries between the popular literature and Buddhist music genre.He isolated "Tang popular literature" from "in the Tang Dynasty Buddhist". Xiang Da went to the northwesten part of China to investigate the Dun Huang cave paintings, and make outstanding contributions to the protection of the Dun Huang caves. In the ethnic history study, Xiang Da also made the same high attainments, especially in a detailed and profound research on Nan zhao history.This paper consists of six chapters and take Xiang Da’s academic achievements as the research object.The paper aims to comprehensively present the academic achievement reached in communication between China and the west, Dun Huang,frontier minority historiography and so on by combined with the life background of the times and historical dynamic. At the same time,the paper summarize its historical scholarship method features and unearthed the model significance of Xiang Da’sstudy.
