| This is a translation project report. The source text for the translation project is Building Community:Reforming Math and Science Education in Rural Schools, which is a research report written by Paul Boyer. The research report reveals practical investigations and the writer’s point of view on community building, especially math and science education in rural areas. Chapter Six through Chapter Nine were chosen for the translation practice and project report. These chapters mainly introduce the general conditions of education in many different communities in Texas. This translation report consists of four parts:the introduction to the translation project, the description of the translation project, case studies, and the conclusion of and implications and suggestions about the translation project. This source text for the translation project is a research report, so it has strong character of formality and its language is formal. That marks it more difficult to find balance between keeping the culture features and delivering the author’s language style. So, the Skopos theory was chosen to be the guiding theory for the translation practice. Correspondingly, various translation strategies and methods were adopted to solve the problems encountered. Though the translator has learned a lot during the process of translation and report writing, there remain several problems to be solved. That suggests that it is essential for translators to improve both their knowledge about other cultures and their translation skills. |
