Left-behind children has a very large number in our country, with many serious problems, they receive a widespread attention from all walks of life. The main mental task of high school students is to establish self-identity. Unsure self-concept will cause serious psychological problems. But in this growth process, the lack of parents’company would hinder the development of the left-behind high school students’self-concept. So in order to promote their psychological health, it’s very necessary to give the left-behind high school students guidance in self-concept.However, most of the researches are mainly focus on the left-behind junior middle school students or primary school students, and the research especially for the left-behind high school students is rare. And most of them are descriptive not intrusive.What’s more, there are very few studies specifically for the self-awareness. At first, the research selected 8 classes in grade 2 of a high school, four classes of art and four classes of science, total of 523 people as the object of investigation to have questionnaire survey and analysis on the situation of the left-behind high school students’self-concept development. Based on the above survey, I selected two classes as experiment group and control group by chance. Utilizing the method of group counseling, the author conducted an 8-phase growth group intervene to experiment group. And through analyzing its effect, the author wanted to discuss the effectiveness of the group counseling. Results of the study indicate that:1. The self-concept level of the left-behind high school students is significantly lower than the general high school students.2. The self-concept level of the female left-behind high school students is significantly higher than the male students.3. The self-concept level of the left-behind high school students has no significant differences in the aspects of self-awareness between arts and science, except on SC.4. Whether their mother is at home or not, and whoever they live with, the self-concept level of the left-behind high school students has no significant differences in the aspects of self-concept.5. Self-concept group counseling plays a very good role in the self-concept development of high school students, the intervention can be used as an effective form for the self-concept development of the left-behind high school students.
