Aesthetic education is the education that beautifies human beings and their environment, and it is the only passage to human aesthetics. Therefore, it is imperative in a new century that teachers should not only instruct the students in survival, but also enlighten them on aesthetics.As an instructor with many years’ Chinese teaching experience, the author has been in the company of students full of youthful spirit. However, the author’s worry and pity rise over the disparity between the deterioration of the students’ aesthetic appreciation and their energetic blood and flesh and the author’s own enthusiasm thereon. Why cannot spirited youth and elegant aesthetics coexistent harmoniously? As a result, this paper focus on the issue of improving the students’ capability of aesthetic appreciation based on the recruits of the year 2013, the teaching material of the 4th of the 5-year Chinese textbook published by Suzhou University Press for higher vocational school students, and other teaching resources. This paper begins with an exploration of the compiling philosophy and features of the above mentioned textbook, and then elaborates on the function and significance of aesthetic appreciation capability to vocational students. The status-quo of students’ aesthetic appreciation capability is acquired through a questionnaire study, and statistical analysis on the data leads to the conclusion that the students’ capability of aesthetic appreciation is in dire need of improvement. Subsequently, this paper proposes aesthetic education in the teaching of Chinese so as to achieve the goal of enhancing the students’ comprehensive accomplishment.
