The Song-dynasty painting has been acknowledged as the peak in the Chinese painting history. It carries the Chinese core value of aesthetics and progressively formed its special context.Experiencing the Tang-dynasty’s prosperity and destruction, Chinese culture was transformed from outward expanding to inner introspecting. Standard of aesthetic at the time became simple and introverted. In this paper, we will start with the comparison between Song painting and the paintings in other historical periods follow by the elaboration of aesthetic orientation of Song as well as positioning it "homeliness but daintily". Secondly, it will discuss about how Confucianism influenced the evolution progress of Song’s painting aesthetic and at the same time constructed the design concept of crafting art. Based on the context of porcelain, human disposition, material attributes and morality are being identified to be the key influences that contribute to the definition of "homeliness but daintily". I hope to identify the rationale between Song’ s painting and Song’s porcelain art through analyzing the formation and inference of traditional Chinese theoretical, and thus, exploring the foundation of Chinese aesthetic paradigm.
