In the background of economic globalization,the teaching goal of English course is to cultivate the students’ language application ability and to reflect the practicability of English teaching. It should combine the language learning and practical application to cultivate language applied talents. However, the higher vocational English teaching still adopt teaching methods on the basis of the structuralism theory. This theory emphasizes the structure of language cognition and attaches importance to vocabulary and grammar knowledge teaching, ignoring the leading of language cultural background knowledge. As a result, the students don’t know the differences between Chinese and Western culture, so they always make mistakes when they communicate with others. For this reason, the writer thinks it is necessary for the teacher to cultivate the students’ cross culture awareness in English teaching.At first, the paper mainly introduce the background, purpose and significance of this research; lists the theoretical and realistic basis of this study; summarizes the domestic and foreign related research; introduce the idea and method of this study; give us the innovation of this study. In the second part, define the concept of cross-cultural awareness in English Teaching in higher vocational colleges and sort out the basic relationship of several related concepts. Including the relationship between English formation and local culture; culture differences and world view; learning English and learning culture. In the third part, the paper analyzes the cultivation of cross-cultural awareness in English teaching in higher vocational colleges, and analyzes the process of the three aspects: the road, the content and the principle. In the fourth part, the paper analyzes the main problems in the cultivation of intercultural awareness in Higher Vocational English teaching, that is, the lack of cross-cultural awareness among teachers; the lack of cross cultural factors in the syllabus; the lack of cross-cultural teaching materials in higher vocational colleges. On the basis of analyzing these problems, the writer gives some strategies to solve these problems, including improve teachers’ cultural literacy; perfect the syllabus; select and compile appropriate textbooks; optimize the teaching reform continuously; improve teaching methods continuously; change the traditional pattern of classroom teaching; make full use of modernized teaching means.The relationship between culture and language is very closely. In the process of learning language, we cannot make the best effect if we only study one type of language but not learn its culture, so the teacher should consider culture teaching in their class. In English teaching in higher vocational colleges, to cultivate the students’ cross culture awareness can mobilize students’ learning interest and enthusiasm. Meanwhile, it can help the students communicate with each other properly in their future life and work. This is just the aim of English teaching in higher vocational colleges. |
