This paper takes the illustrated classical Chinese novels written by Wangtao as the research object,attempting to explore how the pictures complete image narrative and how the image narrative affects narration in the novels.The introduction part of this paper summarizes the current study of Wangtao and finds that there is no paper or work which focus on the image narrative of the classical Chinese novels written by Wangtao. The author analyses the importance of the study on image narrative of the classical Chinese novels written by Wangtao.In the first chapter, the author attempts to introduce the background of the classical Chinese novels written by Wangtao.The second chapter is data investigation including different versions of the classical Chinese novels written by Wangtao and the pictures painted by the painter, this provides detailed information for the following research.Starting from the basic characteristics of narration,the third chapter attempts to explore the content of the image narrative and the basic types of the plot painted in the pictures.The fourth chapter analysizes the influence of image narrative on literal narrative,on the one hand the image narrative makes suspense in the novels and on the other hand it makes crossing narrative in the novels,and in the mean time, image narrative and literal nattive produce some cracking and tension in the fiction narrative.The fifth chapter takes the whole novels combining picture and literature as the research object, exploring the narrative space system of the novels,the characteristics of the narrative space and how the narrative space create time.
