Juzhouwenji was written by Bao tan, a monk of Song Dynasty. Song Dynasty saw a lot of monks who wrote poems and essays about mundane lives. Bao tan was one of them. He was not famous for his Buddhist theories but for his poems and essays that reflected the secular society. In fact, from Juzhouwenji, we can see a lot of traits that show Baotan’s close interaction with bureaucrats. So, Bao tan is meaningful individual case that showed interaction between Buddhism and the secular society. This thesis mainly focuses on poems and essays in Juzhouwenji and tries to use these works and Bao tan related materials in local chronicles, Tripitaka, and collection of literal works of his contemporaries to depict a picture of Bao tan’s life experience, his relationship with monks and bureaucrats and his literal works.
