| The year of 2015 was the 70 thanniversary of Chinese victory against Japanese aggression and China held a grand military parade especially for it, causing the world’s attention. With seventy years passing by, most people only cared about those major battles and famous generals who joined in the War against the Japanese Aggression which had lasted for eight years and knew few about Kuomintang grass-root officers and its soldiers who suffered the great sacrifice. As people were paying more attention on Chinese veterans of the War, many interviews were made and relevant books published, and thus a new text, oral history of veterans of the War, was produced. The new text focused on Kuomintang grass-root officers and soldiers who participated in the War, and told the history of the War from a unique angle, from which it presented historical values in some way. Translating oral history of Kuomintang veterans of the War from Chinese into English was good for international exchange on this subject, which could deepen people’s understanding on Chinese efforts on the War against Japanese Aggression.The writer excerpted four stories from Oral History of Hunan Veterans of the Anti-Japanese War as translation texts, and tried to conclude the translation methods and skills on texts by analyzing somecases in the thesis. The thesis was divided into four parts, including task description, process description, text features and its translation, and summary and conclusion. It told us the task background, reasons,translating process, key and difficult points encountered in the translating process and their solutions, as well as unsolved problems and deficiencies in translation. After finishing the translation, the writer did some research on these texts and concluded his translating experience from them,hoping it would provide some valuable experience for reference for those who would translate this kind of text in the future. |
