Research On Reference And Application Of Woodcut Form In Oil Painting Creation

In the long process of the development of oil painting,generations of artists are constantly exploring, blending and absorbing other art forms, pushing the innovation of oil painting. Woodcut printmaking, with its unique charm, make it possible for the oil painting to borrow its forms in practice.This paper is a bold attempt to explore and analyze the adoptability of woodcut printmarking and concrete ways to do so. This paper mainly includes the following four parts: The first part is an in-depth interpretation of the woodcut art,of which the definition and forms will be primarily elaborated.The second part is an analysis of the manifestation of woodcut printmarking and its concrete adoptability and application.This part firstly elaborates on how oil painting borrows and applies the forms and element of woodcut printing in term of the composition, modeling, and color of oil painting, then summaries with artist’ practical oil painting creation as testimony. The third part elaborates on practical significance of applying and adopting woodcut printmaking in oil painting,which not only promotes the diversified development of oil painting forms, but also reflects the different cultural interaction. Additionally, it’s also conducive to theinnovation and development of oil painting. The fourth part is a personal oil painting example and sharing of personal experience, which is based on the author’s own demonstration in order to analyze and prove the application of woodcut printmarking in practical oil painting. Then the paper ends with some personal reflection and a summary.This paper is about theory as well as practice. Through a combination of this two research methods, the application of woodcut printmarking in oil painting has been systematically checked and summarized. Finally it proposes that this adoptation should be applied not only in elements like composition, shape and color but also in the basic characteristics of oil painting. In addition to that, this application should be greatly promoted with the woodcut art spirit an inherently organic element in creating oil paintings of artistic appeals that can meet people’s aesthetic standards.
