Traditional Chinese realistic painting of flowers and birds is an important branch of Chinese traditional painting with a long history, and has made remarkable achievements.The fine brush painting became a separate discipline in Sui and Tang dynasty when the fine arts in our country developed and arrived its climax. And then it evolved the style of‘Xu Xi Ye Yi’ and Huang Jia Fu Gui’, and made a monumental ink achievement in the five dynasties.The fine brush painting reached an unparalleled peak in in Song dynasty. While after the Ming and Qing dynasties,it was on the wane for the rise of impressionistic flower and bird painting. Delightingly, modern fine brush painting is developing rapidly with the development of society and the increasing cultural exchanges in these yeas.As what Kandinsky says in 《Concerning the Spiritual in Art》:‘Every work of art is the child of its age and, in many cases,the mother of our emotions. It follows that each period of culture produces an art of its own which can never be repeated.’Indeed, the information that art delivers would be different in the painting language at various times. So our fine brushpainting should keep up with the trend of the times, learn from other foreign languages on the basis of a good inheritance.Meanwhile, it also should carry out proper upgrading and innovation to make it more close to our life, our thoughts and our aesthetic value judgments, which is an inevitable outcome of the development of the society. Some novel formal languages are introduced from frequent exchanges with western countries and Japanese, promoting the development of modern fine brush painting. Modern professional detailed flowers-and-birds painters utilize these languages for integration and innovation. So, how to develop modern flowers-and-birds painting has been a problem worth studying. First, the essence of tradition could not be changed. Second, all kinds of foreign artistic forms should be absorbed properly to produce more printings imbued with the times.This paper takes the contemporary as background, and utilizes the foreign cultures as excavation. Then the paper describes the inheritance of traditional language form and the collisions with foreign cultural language form, starting with the development of thought change, thus, paving the way for the diversity formal language analysis of modern flowers-and-birds painting. Works by artists in different styles are analyzed in this paper.Finally, the innovation and trend of modern flowers-and-birds painting are discussed in various aspects according to the practice of the author...
