Research Of Tourism English Teachign Materials Evaluation

ESP, the abbreviation of “English for Specific Purposes”, refers to the English teaching that combines English learning and professional knowledge together, which aims to cultivate the multiple-disciplinary talents. Tourism English, as a main branch of ESP teaching is the required course for the students who majored in Tourism, which has the responsibility of training more excellent tourism talents. Tourism English teaching not only needs students to grasp the professional knowledge, but also improve the ability of English listening, speaking and communicating. Tourism English materials serve as the basic factors in the process of teaching, which play an important role in teaching programme. Normative Tourism English teaching materials construction is the essential part of Tourism English teaching.The number of current researches is increasing recently, but there are still some problems existed in the researches. The previous researchers only evaluate the materials but not give suggestions and some researchers make the material evaluation just by choosing on or two chapter of the book, which could provide enough evidence to testify the conclusion. In order to make up the deficiency of present studies of Tourism English teaching materials, this thesis adopts qualitative research, by interviewing the teachers, students and graduates to make an evaluation and analysis of three series of Tourism English teaching materials, which are adopted in Harbin University of Commerce, trying to evaluate and analyze the qualities of them, then point out the issues lying in the materials and put forward suggestions for compiling selecting and using Tourism English teaching materials. Especially the compiling principles are put forward, such as the communicative principle, practical principle etc. Aim to promote high quality’s Tourism English materials’ compiling and use, and then improve the qualities of Tourism English teaching.
