Objective: Forgiveness is increasingly becoming a hotspot in positive psychology research field. The research of forgiveness concerns more about the positive and healthy psychology of human beings. A series of domestic and foreign researches show the forgiveness is favorable for the psychological health of undergraduates. Forgiveness intervention method is adopted in a large number of foreign researches and its application value has been increasingly proved. However, it is only used in a small amount of researches in China to investigate the active effect of forgiveness. In view of this, this research tries to understand the forgiveness characteristics of current freshman individuals. Meanwhile, based on REACH forgiveness intervention model, a highly targeted psychological counseling scheme is compiled for forgiveness groups, which aims to better improve self-forgiveness level while enhancing the level of forgiving others, thus exploring the better way to improve the forgiveness level of undergraduates.Method: Using Hearland forgiveness scale, this study makes questionnaire among 630 freshmen in a comprehensive normal university in Changsha, investigates the forgiveness level of freshmen, and then formulates the targeted group counseling scheme for forgiveness. Finally, 36 subjects are selected and randomly allocated to the experimental group, control group A and control group B, and the subjects in three groups have no obvious difference in forgiveness level before intervention. Subjects in each group accept different test treatment in the stipulated time period. The experimental group accepts forgiveness group counseling once a week, control group A undergoes intervention in ordinary team game activity once a week, and control group B receives no treatment. The forgiveness level of the three groups is tested eight weeks later, and tracking test is conducted 1 months later to verify the effect of group counseling scheme. The results show:(1) Generally, the forgiveness scores of freshmen are above the average level, and a part of students still present relatively low forgiveness level;(2) The forgiveness scores got by freshmen have no obvious difference in the aspect of gender, the only child or non-only child and liberal arts or science, but the scores of forgiving others have an obvious difference in the aspect of gender and the only child or non-only child, and the scores have no obvious difference in the aspect of liberal arts or science;(3) After group counseling, there is an obvious difference in experimental group before and after test, and a significant difference also exists between pre-test and tracking-test results. The scores of forgiving others and self-forgiving are significantly improved.Conclusions:(1) The self-forgiveness level of freshmen has no obvious difference in the aspect of gender, the only child or non-only child and liberal arts or science;(2) From the perspective of gender, the level of first grade university female students is obviously higher than that of first grade university male students; in the aspect of the only child or non-only child, the non-only child shows a higher level of forgiving others than the only child;(3) The group psychological counseling based on REACH forgiveness intervention model can improve the forgiveness level of freshmen; the group psychological counseling with forgiveness as the topic has sustainable influences on the forgiveness quality of freshmen.
