Painting therapy show feelings and conflicts subconscious of paintersthrough painting. On the one hand, according to the paintings, theexpression of the subconscious of painters can be understood;on the otherhand, some depressed mood, emotion and conflict in the painting processwill be relieved and catharsis. And application as a projective technique,it has unique effect and significance for the language barrier or poorexpression, as well as the individual have resistance to psychological.Due to factors such as change of living environment, interpersonalrelationship, learning style, some of college freshmen are difficult toadapt to the new life, so as to cause depression, anxiety, volitionalactivity drops, the symptoms of depression which not only affect thelearning effect, also brought psychological burden and pressure to thenew students.Serious will lead to the occurrence of some malignantaccidents.This study first screening2012freshman of one college using theUniversity Personality Inventory (UPI) and find out the first class ofstudents.According to the principle of voluntary,after the first timemeasurement with HAMD, these chosen students were grouped by random, thefirst group (group1) given a painting group therapy intervention, thesecond group (group2) painting individual therapy intervention; thethird group (control group) without any intervention. At the same time,12people were randomly selected as health group from the "silent" universityfreshmen groups. This study is posttest experimental design. Thedifference scores of subjects on HAMD scale before and after theintervention were tested. The paintings of chosen experimental group1,experimental group2, control group, health group were compared to studythe effect of painting group counseling and painting individualcounseling for university freshmen depression intervention; to furtherexplore the significance of the measurement of painting therapy onalleviating symptoms of depression and its mechanism of action and effect.This study reached the following conclusions:1, In this study, the results of the first test using HAMD scale on the subjects group and healthy group is: subject group and healthy groupare different in levels of depression, especially remarkable differencesin the anxiety and somatization, retardation, cognitive impairment andtotal score; no differences in body weight changes, day and night, sleepdisorder these three projects.2, The individual painting counseling and group painting counselingwhich are carried out by the researchers design theme have significanteffect for the relief of symptoms of these college students.3, In this study, the overall effect of individual painting counselingis better than group painting counseling, especially in cognitiveimpairment and the sense of despair, but the obvious deficiency is timeconsuming.4,The experimental data of HTP drawing works and HAMD results aregenerally consistent. The structure, content, theme, strokes, lines ofpainting shows that participants gained positive growth through theintervention. Aspects of their social, self experience have beenimproving and upgrading,at the same time, depressive symptoms have beenalleviated.5, The painting group intervention can help participants better solvethe relationships between themselves and the objective reality or therelationships between themselves and the others.And they can reflect thevalue of themselves through the establish of the "relationship".
