This work attempts to analyze two aspects of the identity construction of the heroin Hoppe in this fictitious biography. The first aspect is based on her true experiences in the context of globalization. The other aspect is constructed on the basis of a large amount of literature which is written by the heroin, especially her fairy tales. This work investigates how a fictitious identity construction within a novel redefines the search for identity in the actual plot of the novel.Accompanied by the trend of globalization the personal identity is hard to be defined within the boundary of countries and cultures. Some terms and definitions are deconstructed. The redefinition and reconstruction of identity turn therefore to be a personal mission that the people can’t avoid. But this mission is becoming more and more difficult in the reality because of the social structure changes. This phenomena is also reflected in the literature. A large amount of literature about the theme identity discuss problems such like identity crisis and lost identities. This trend has become more general in some literature works with postmodern characteristics.Among the works with the same themes the novel Hoppe has broken the mindset that literature must be experienced. In this fictitious biography a large amount of literature works of the heroine is quoted. She has recomposed the classical fairy tales and legends. In this process a series of identity motives are developed and used. These motives also appear in actual plot of the novel and combine the two aspects of identity-construction together. The focuses of this study are:Why is a fictitious identity in the novel developed and staged? Which characteristics hat this identity? Are there any intersections between the real and fictitious identities?Due to such issues, firstly, the instruction of theories focuses on the narrative theory of Jurgen Straub and Wolfgang Kraus. The characteristics and principles of narrative identity construction which are based on different social eras are particularly presented.Secondly, in the third and forth part this work introduces briefly the prize winner Felicitas Hoppe and her complex for the recomposition of classical fairy tales and dreams. It analyzes the novel from its structure and content. The analysis of the structure includes the time and spatial dimensions of the two identity-constructions in the novel. In the true experiences of the heroin we can see a clear time going and change of locations. But in the other aspect the time stagnates and the scenes in the dreams are fixed. The two aspects of identity construction are combined with each other. That is why the narrative construction in the novel hat nonlinear features. The analysis of the content focuses on the functions of identity motives in the novel, for example "the pied piper" and "the self crowned snow queen". These motives reflect hoppe’s cognitive, dout, fight and self crowned processes of identity. In the last part following a comparison between the narrative construction of identity in the novel and the narrative identity with postmodern characteristics. Although the first aspect of the novel describes the personal Uncertainty and drift trend in the background of globalization, the author hasn’t used the postmodern narrative art In the second aspect. Based on the recomposition of fairy tales a kind of identity integrity is constructed. The identity construction in this novel hat thus own unique narrative style among the literature works about the theme. | | Keywords/Search Tags: | Hoppe, fairy tales, the construction of multiple identities | PDF Full Text Request | Related items |
