Since the new century, the new generation of directors have carried on the reform and innovation of Hong Kong film with new film principles and creative skills, which inspired a film trend whose spirit of reform and innovation was similar to the New Wave in Hong Kong, namely the new New Wave in Hong Kong of the new century. It enhances the charm of Hong Kong film, and promotes the recovery of Hong Kong film. Pang Ho-cheung stands out among numerous new generation of directors in Hong Kong with his unique film language and distinctive Pang’s style. This thesis chooses Pang Ho-cheung as the study object, puts great emphasis on the technique, style and language of his films, examines his unique contribution to Hong Kong film, and summarizes his inspiration to the new generation of directors in Hong Kong and Hong Kong film.To begin with, the thesis reviews the development of Hong Kong film in recent thirty years from the perspective of film history, explains on the concept of the new New Wave in Hong Kong, introduces the creating group of the new generation of directors and their creative features, and gets an overview on the background of Pang Ho-cheung’s creation.Moreover, the thesis comprehensively reviews Pang Ho-cheung and his films from four aspects. Firstly, from the perspective of life attitude and film ideology, sensitive, pessimistic lift attitude and the creation tenet of the "author film", deeply influences his film creation. Secondly, from the perspective of viewing angles and objects, he focuses on social modality of Hong Kong and unstable interpersonal relationships. Thirdly, from the perspective of film technique and film style, the mixed narrative mode of linear and non-linear, the aesthetic style of black humor, the distinctive feature of mixed type, and these create a unique Pang Ho-cheung’s image. Fourthly, from the perspective of film language, subjective colors enrich expression levels, expressive camera lenses expand the statements, abundant music extends the connotation of images, and these form fascinating tension of film language.Finally, the thesis places Pang Ho-cheung among numerous new generation of directors in Hong Kong to make a comparison, analyses the preciousness and transcendence of his creation, sums up his contribution to Hong Kong film in the new century, and experience and lessons in the creation of the new generation of directors, finds out the implications to the recovery of Hong Kong film.
