This a translation report on Never Say Goodbye, the latest work of Sunday Times? best-selling author – Susan Lewis that published in 2013. The book tells a moving and inspiring story of how the heroine, Josie Clark deals with the pain and sorrow cause by breast cancer and comes to be close friend with Bel Monkton. The author had chosen the most splendid 4 chapters of 13000 words from the novel as translation task. This report is an analysis based on the English- Chinese translation. By analyzing the examples in the Chinese translation of Never Say Goodbye, this report explores the application of translation strategies like, negation, structure shift, idioms, to the solve difficulties the translator has met during translation process under the guidance of Skopos theory and translation shift theory.The report discusses the translation process including pre-translation preparation, relevant issues after the translation and case study. Features of the source text are summarized as colloquial words, vivid and touching plot. During the process of translation, Skopos theory and translation shift theory are applied to guide the translation practice, intratextual and extratextual factors affecting the translators are discussed as well. At the end of the report, the author concludes the findings and experiences gained from this translation practice.
