Chu Tien-wen is a famous female writer in Taiwan, who is Hou Hsiao-hsien’s screenwriter. Hou is the leading figure of Taiwan’s New Wave cinema movement. Consistent with the plain, natural, quiet and elegant concept advocated by Taiwan’s New Wave, Chu’s works are also delicate, lyrical, peaceful and profound. She has a deep concern for the local, including the women hogtied and oppressed by the marriage in the countryside, the teenagers in confusion, the collision in the transition to modernization, the hardship and breakthrough of the people neglected by the society,presented with her exquisite and lyrical words.Chu Tien-wen literary creation for movies stands between the early age of youth novels and late age of urban novels. The continuity of the time and the writing experience creates an obvious intertextuality between the novel and movie script. In short, characteristics of plot de-emphasized and warmth are adopted by the film script and its unique film vision and film language are subtly infiltrated into the urban novels. We can say that because she is both a novelist and playwright dual Zhu’s movie script has distinctive duality, being not only exquisite but also dramatic. as it is simple prose and movie script meeting the need of the movie marketization.Because a movie script belongs to the film and television text, which can be performed perfectly in movies. At this point, Chu Tien-wen Hou and Hsiao-hsien are perfect partners. Holding the aesthetic spirit of presenting the real world and criticizing it and the artistic keynote of lyrical poem towards life, they led the wave of Taiwan new movie, producing many outstanding works like Three Times.This writer of the paper tries to focus on Chu Tien-wen’s novels and movie script, from many views to explore the text form, local concerns, the intertextuality relations and film presentation, for excavate its long-neglected unique art value, to establish its position in her literary creation career. Besides, we can discuss the artistic value and historical position of her works, which shows that she perfectly makes a novelist and a screenwriter one cross the intersection between literature and cinema in Taiwan.
