In Chinese contemporary literature history, the creation on the industry novels is an indispensable part of the literature, of which the shaping of all kinds of workers’ images have added a lot of bright color for a series of characters in the contemporary literary. Since the founding of new China, the industry novel has mainly included four stages’ development covering “Seventeen-year”period, the “Cultural Revolution” period, “Reform of the Literature” stage and “the Shock Wave of Realism” stage from its commence to wander, development and deepening. From the horizontal perspective, the shaping characters in industry novels are different from time to time. The most representative are workers’ hero image during the “Seventeen-year” period, deified hero image of the “Cultural Revolution” period, reformers’ and the socialists’ new image in the stage of “Reform of the Literature”, and the bottom-level image in the stage of “the Shock Wave of Realism”. All these images are combined into the workers’ image spectrum. From the vertical angle, the worker images present a changing development from “the hero class”, “the common people”, “flat character” to “round figure”. As a literary form closely relating to social reality, the creation on industry novels and their characters has been influenced by modernization, industrialization, realism, literary controversy and political and economical backgrounds. Under the guidance of these reasons, an evolution and inherent law of the worker image’ spectrum can be achieved a deeper and more complete understanding.
