In the 40′s of Shanghai, Eileen Chang looked like “floral” forties appeared in the literary world. She aroused the concern of people in the enemy-occupied area; it included Japanese among the readers of Eileen Chang′s fans. The reason why Eileen Chang was so popular in the enemy-occupied area of Shanghai, it is because that she wrote much about traditional Chinese culture in her books. In her books, she also mentioned Japanese culture. Along this research idea, I began to write my paper. I mainly adopted the research method of cultural criticism; I tried to read the text carefully, to clarify Eileen Chang ′s view of culture. The paper is divided into four parts.In the introduction part, the paper from Eileen Chang′s family background, mother′s education, school experience, marriage and the cultural atmosphere of Shanghai in the 40′s. From many aspects of different cultures influenced Eileen Chang. According to this angle, I think Eileen Chang can mention Japanese culture in her books, because it is a reflection of her cultural compensation, she can find the lost traditional Chinese culture in different culture. From this, we can know that China is always in her heart.The first chapter is “Eileen Chang process of acceptance in Japan”. In this part, I run through Eileen Chang′s research status in term of time order. In the 40′s, there were two Japanese researched Eileen Chang. In their study of Eileen Chang mainly because of Eileen Chang′s experience and preferences were similar to theirs. From the 50′s to 7o′s, Japanese research on Eileen Chang is out of the concern of the socialism under the leadership of Communist Part. In the 80′s to 9o′s, Eileen Chang welcomed the research upsurge in the world, Japan was no exception.The second chapter is “Japanese cultural elements in Eileen Chang′s books”. The paper mainly researches the reflected Eileen Chang′s prose of Japanese cultural elements to reveal the relationship between Eileen Chang′s literary creation and Japanese culture. The paper discusses the following aspects, such as, Japanese, ukiyoe, music, geisha, literature, film etc.The third chapter, “Eileen Chang′s view of Japanese culture”. In order to clarify Eileen Chang′s view of culture, the paper described from the following aspects, such as, the influence of traditional culture on Japanese culture, Eileen Chang chose to Japanese culture and Eileen Chang′s view of culture. So I came to the conclusion that Eileen Chang talked about Japanese culture in her book, but in her heart, she cared about the cultural China forever.
