With the further introducing of China’s opening up policy and China’s increasing international exchanges, speeches delivered by successful people in foreign countries have become an important way for Chinese young people to learn experience. And oral interpretation is the important means to promote cross-cultural exchanges. In English speeches there are always a lot of cohesive means to make the speech more fluent and cohesive. When interpreting English speeches, interpreters should pay attention to interpreting context as well as cohesive means. Due to the differences in language customs and culture backgrounds between English and Chinese, interpreters should exchange the English cohesive means to Chinese ones, so as to conform to Chinese customs.Yahoo former CEO Jerry Yang’s speech introduces Yahoo’s developing history to us and shows us emerging things such as Internet and E-business. This paper is a practice report on the consecutive interpreting of Jerry Yang’s speech. Author will mark and classify the cohesive means in the speech. Under the guidance of the Cohesion Theory and relevant Oral Interpretation Theories, the author will use repetition, adding and ellipsis strategies to interpret the English cohesive means. Through analyzing the interpretation, author will try to explore the influence of interpreting strategies on the fluency of interpretation, and provide some guidance for relevant oral interpretations.
