In consecutive interpreting, chances are high that an interpreter is constantly haunted by illogical source messages when attempting to deliver his rendition smoothly. Besides, despite adequate pre-task preparation, an interpreter may still encounter unfamiliar terminologies in the interpreting process. To ensure rendition quality and communicative interactions, an interpreter is supposed to employ appropriate strategies to handle challenging situations. In this report, the author categorizes the difficulties arising in the consecutive interpreting task into three major types, namely illogical sentences, firefighting terminologies and detailed description of firefighting scenes, and analyzes the information processing strategies he adopted in the interpreting process. It is hoped that the report can shed light on feasible strategies for other interpreters on similar interpreting occasions.
