This report is based on the translation of some excerpts of Offering to Ancestors, Blessings for Us: An Anthropological Survey of the “Nongx Niul” Ceremony of the Miao in Wulue Village, Rongjiang County, Guizhou Province. The source text is written by Lei Xiuwu, an expert in the study of the Miao. It aims to veritably and perfectly introduce the “Nongx Niul” ceremony, the grandest and holiest ancestor worship ceremony of the Miao. It not only summarizes the anthropological significance of the “Nongx Niul” ceremony, but also introduces its procedures and objects in detail. For these reasons, translating this text will contribute to promot the academic communication between the domestic and abroad Hmong scholars.This source text is translated by two translators, and the writer of this report mainly translated the excerpts concerning the functions of the “Ghet Fengs”, the procedures and special objects of the “Nongx Niul” ceremony as well as the anthropological meaning of the “Nongx Niul” ceremony. As the source text is a survey, its expression is accurate and its language should be plain and simple. Therefore, the writer, under the guidiance of translator‘s subjectivity, tried her best to make the target text meet these features and requirements. The writer also shares the techniques applie to the translation of the minorities‘ folk custom with other translators.
