The Research Of William Morris`s Book Design And Publishing Activities

This thesis is the research of William Morris’ s book design theory and practice.The paper also include the history of Kelmscott Press from 1890 to 1896. The Press insists on finely crafted book art when the press set up until it’s closed, the style of this press was so different from the complicated and exaggerated decorative style in Victorian. William Morris and his workmates focus on the details of typeface design,typography design and book design. Post-modern book designers have absorbed a lot of experience from Kelmscott Press already. Today’s book designers have tied by the computers for a long time, it seems like they have forgotten the joy of handmade. I hope this article will have some useful arguments for modern book designers.
