The Research On Semantic Prosody Of Frequency Adverb With The Morphemes “Lv(屡)”, “Lian(连) ”, “Shi(时)” In Modern Chinese

Frequency adverb is a word class which is used to denote the frequency of occurrence of an action, event, a behaviour or certain state, and some of these modified behaviours, events and states doesn’t have commendatory or derogatory shades of meaning, but some of them takes obvious negative or positive shades of meaning. In the long-term use process, frequency adverb will gradually form a kind of tendentiousness of semantic selection under the influence of that modified actions, behaviours and events, and this is so called semantic prosody discussed in thesis. Semantic prosody can be hardly perceived by intuition, even if we could notice it, it lacks of corpus-based objective verification. Based on such viewpoint, this thesis chose three groups of frequency adverb which contains morphemes “Lv(屡)”, “Lian(连)”, “Shi(时)” respectively as objects of study, refered to the basic principle and method used to study collocation in corpus linguistics, attempted to observe and analyse these words in the framework of semantic prosody theory on the basis of modern Chinese corpus, and also compare the words in same group to discover the semantic and pragmatic differences between them.There are six chapters which can be devided into four parts in this thesis, and the third part is the main body of this thesis:The first part is an introduction including the purpose and meaning of this research and research contents, also study basis and method of this thesis.The second part is literature review that combs the previous researches of semantic prosody in modern Chinese and frequency adverb.The third part consists of chapter three, four and five, analyses the semantic prosody of these three groups of frequency adverb from the perspective of colligation and shades of meaning based on corpus.The fourth part is conclusion which summarized the semantic prosody of these objects according to above statistics, and pointed out deficiencies of this thesis.
