"Songhu Opera of the Countryside" recorded the story of an amateur opera troupe- Xinyihua Songhu Opera Troupe from Shenxiang in Qingpu. The 55-year-old head of the troupe, Master Du, is the only full-time staff. He started performing Songhu Opera from 19 years old until 2005. At that year, he took over an abandoned troupe. Members of the troupe are in the age between 42 and 70, and most of them have their own jobs. Everyone loves Songhu Opera, and are willing to perform for the villagers of Qingpu District. Now Master Du has slowly put down the acting role for the sake of his body, concentrating on the troupe business. Recruiting new members is also one his job. In 2014 May, Chen Haiquan, a Chinese teacher from Dianshanhu Primary School, joined the troupe. As a new member, Chen Haiquan has developed him a lot under the instruction and help of the head and other members. In order to bring the villagers wonderful performance, troupe members don’t care about the wage and the theater equipment, just for their own interest and giving the elder villages some artistic atmosphere.
