Performance Evaluation Of ICAT: Based On Chinese Translation Of Electromagnetic Modeling Of RFID

Electromagnetic Modeling of RFID-Modulated Scattering Mechanism. Application to Tag Performance Evaluation is a basic theoretic paper of RFID, which is also a typical English academic discourse for science and technology. iCAT is a CAT software which is developed by Multilingual Engineering Technology Research Center of China. Its personal version is free for individual translators. Computer aided translation includes memory-based translation, grammar analysis translation and human-computer interaction translation. CAT leaves repeated, rigid work to computer. On the one hand, it could help translators to focus on the translation. On the other side, it could also help translators with accuracy and unity of details.By using iCAT to translate English academic discourse for science and technology into Chinese, this paper analyzes advantages and disadvantages of iCAT from aspect of project management, corpus treatment, collaboration, software performance, etc. The definition of CAT and operational principle of iCAT are briefly introduced in the first part of this paper. Then, the second part analyzes advantages of iCAT during Chinese translation of English academic discourse for science and technology by using examples. And disadvantages of iCAT during the Chinese translation of English academic discourse for science and technology are shown in the next part. At last, a dialectical approval towards practicability of iCAT during the Chinese translation of English academic discourse for science and technology is given.In translation process, although iCAT still have some disadvantages in some aspects such as formation conversion, corpus management, but the accuracy and efficiency of translation is indeed improved. This paper believes that iCAT could be a useful tool for Chinese translation of English academic discourse for science and technology.
