Reproduction Of Linguistic Style From The Perspective Of Acceptability

From linguistic perspective, style can be formed by appropriate combination of words, sentence and text, which are basic factors of style. Acceptability, which is a yardstick of the appreciation of a text, must be the guide line in reproducing the style of original. In this thesis, acceptability refers that readers of translation version expect the version expresses both the intention and style of the original. The language should be in accordance with their habit of language using.Based on the features of the original in diction, sentence structure and text construction, the thesis explains reproducing the style in translation. Firstly, it gives a brief introduction of “acceptability” and “style” and a literature review of reproducing style in translation. Secondly, it analyzes the features of the original in three aspects, diction, sentence structure and text construction. Thirdly, it tells how the author reproduces the style of the original in translation under the guideline of acceptability. Finally, the thesis argues that it is necessary to take acceptability as a guideline in reproducing style.At last the thesis points out that when reproducing the style of diction in translation, imitating the original and changing the image are effective ways; as for sentence structure, maintain and changing sequences when necessary; and for text construction, correspondence plus reconstruction.
