The Study Of China’s Image Shaped By Chinese Movies In The New Century

With the fast development of the global productivity, the clash of the old colonial system and the upheaval of the SU and Eastern Europe, the position of culture has changed greatly, it has been as important as politics,economy and military. Every country has joined the competition of discourse power,all of them try to improve their cultural strength, and shape their positive state image. China has made a great progress during these years, however, the image of China is not so positive, it is even built and determined by the other countries, thus China is eager to shape its image which is match to its actual strength and its objective development. We live in a media era today, and movies can play an important role in shaping a positive China image, because of movie’s traits and China’s movies’success comparing to the other cultural products.There are two classical perspectives on studying country image, one is the reflection horizon of Essentialism,the other is the generation horizon of constructionism. Only those two perspectives are both considered, can the concept of counter image be comprehensive Country image contains many aspects,such as politics,military,culture,cavil life and economy. With the more than 100 years’ deposit especially the rapid development during the 21 century, China’s movies had developed a lot on the aspects of quantity,box office and the international influence, they had actually played an Irreplaceable role. According to the standard of global box office and the award-winning, the researcher had chosen the most influential Chinese movies during 2000and 2012,and analysed the China images of politics,military,society,culture and economy which were built by those movies, the researcher also explained the classical methods by which those movies built China’s image,besides the researcher would compared it with American image built by Hollywood movies.Thus the researcher could summary the success and failures on Chinese movies,and give some recommendations on how to shape a positive global China image.The division of main melody film, Commercial film and the art film in Chinese movies was dispelled gradually, and its development had laid a solid foundation for a positive China image.However, Hollywood movies still controlled the discourse power of the global movies. Confronting the pressure of technology,capital and talents of Hollywood movies, Chinese movies could hardly combat. On the macroscopic aspect, Chinese movies should be based on the splendid Chinese culture and the fast developing modern China, Chinese movies should be cultural self-confidence and self-improvement on the basis of cultural self-consciousness, and try to fight for the global discourse power,instead of yielding to the existing cultural hegemony. On the microscopic aspect, China should produce more competitive products, and improve the quality from the aspects of theme,and expression methods,etc.In short,Chinese movies during the past 21st century had wined some achievements on shaping positive China image, but there were still some shortcomings.Only considering from the height of cultural self-improvement, and having a clear understanding of the history and present situation of Chinese movies,can Chinese movies improve from the aspects of strategy and methods,thus they can shape a positive China image successfully.
