The debate, ostensibly about Catholicism versus Protestantism, came to address English history, politics, religious doctrine, language, scripture, individual conscience, free will, human nature, radical change and evolutionary conservatism.; These two geniuses had immensely influential careers. Henry VIII's Lord Chancellor, Thomas More, invented the word Utopia, and the related communitarian sentiment which has shaped radical movements ever since. Lone translator of the Bible, William Tyndale, was so skilled a linguist that his words eventually made up approximately eighty percent of the King James Bible. He is, even today, perhaps the only English writer more widely quoted than Shakespeare. Twa Corbies is an original stage play dramatizing this debate between these two giants, who both died within months of each other as martyrs to their causes. | | Keywords/Search Tags: | Thomas, Tyndale | PDF Full Text Request | Related items |
