Meshrep is a kind of traditional folk activity in Xin Jiang. It is composed of songs, music, dance, ballads and skits. It has been an essential custom in Uyghur life and it is very popular among the Uyghur that live to the north and south of the Tianshan Mountains. Meshrep ballads are a significant part of Meshrep, and have the longest history and most diverse content. Different regions have different forms of Meshrep, as well as different customs and lifestyles. This paper focuses on DaoLang culture in Awat County and studies DaoLang Meshrep ballads. The thesis is divided into four chapters:an analysis of the national and international research status of Awat County DaoLang Meshrep ballads; a study of DaoLang Meshrep ballad themes; literary features of the ballads and their performance and development.The first chapter introduces existing research into DaoLang Meshrep ballads, and outlines an historical overview of Awat DaoLang Meshrep, concluding with a classification of the ballads and their relationship to one another.The second chapter focuses on the study of Meshrep ballad theme’s. The writer classifies the ballads into three themes: love; the RuZi festival and work. The largest numbers of ballads involve the theme of love. Love ballads are indispensable in every nationality and region. They express the healthy and true love of working people using various lively forms. Ballads and custom have a very close relationship, we can learn about customs through ballads. Therefore, this article analyzes Awat County’s dress culture and food culture by researching Meshrep ballads.The third chapter discusses the lyrics of Awat County DaoLang Meshrep ballads, examining the literary features such as rhetorical devices and imagery. The lyrical expression of these ballads possesses outstanding clarity of meaning. Rhetorical devices include analogy, personification, rhetorical questions and symbolization.The fourth chapter discusses performance and the creation of new Meshrep ballads. This chapter examines the importance of Meshrep ballads as part of cultural inheritance and looks at ways of preserving and developing this heritage.
