Temple fair in Jin is listed in the non-material cultural heritage of Suzhou, Jiangsu Province and our country. It contains abundant cultural elements, including folk beliefs in farming rituals, heroes and generals, and Buddhism, local operas and acrobatics, local music and dancing, and some folk traditional handicrafts including rich food fermentation, manufacturing of productive tools and living utensils and knitting as well. The essay looks at the current situation of temple fair’s protection and inheritance. From the perspectives of the policies, ventures, funds, mass organizations and successors, it also points out some problems related in the process of protection and inheritance, like imperfection of policy systems, aging of successors, and destruction of ecological environment as well. Philosophic thinking of cultural ecology and living cultural should be introduced in the protection and inheritance of temple fair in Jin. It should insist on human-oriented principle, combining with principles of integrity, diversity,productivity and living, and ecological environment protection.
