An Analysis Of The Influence Of Journalist’ Career Upon Bi Yihong’s Novel Creative

Bi Yihong was an important novelist, newsman, and one of the representatives of Yangzhou Group during early the republic of China. He was born in Jiangsu Yizheng in 1892 and died in 1926. The thesis is proposed to use a method in combination of intensive reading and historic research his newsman life and the relations between his works, and how his newsman life affected his novel creation.The thesis contains two parts.In the first part, it explains the research significance and the recent research situations of the topic. The other part including four chapters, mainly discusses whether and how his newsman life affected his novel creation.Chapter one makes interpretation of his multiple cultural identity of the newsman. He was ever appointed to a minor official position and later studied law and politics at national university. Under the recommendation of Bao Tianxiao, he entered Times as an editor, at the same time worked as an editor for Small Times, and successively he also created Sliver Light magazine and Shanghai Pictorial. Henceforth, he began his writing career. This constitutes the basis for chapter two and three of the thesis, and also the clue to the research of his newsman career and literature creation.Chapter two is an important part of the thesis, concentrating on exploring the possible effects of his newsman life on novel creation. The imperial examinations and the newspaper were exerting a subtle influence on the minds and development direction of cultural men during the early Republic of China. Most of them chose news writing and literature creation, and developed a dual identity as newsman and novelist, with the two identities interplaying on each other.Chapter three makes a detailed introduction and analysis on Bi Yihong’s life experience as a newsman and how the experience affected his novel creation. His experience had made his novels more flavor of journalism, more realistic and more characterized by desultory structure. The chapter takes his long masterpiece as example and by intensive reading reveals historical value.In chapter four, it mainly discusses the differences in the styles of his works from other contemporary writers’, expounds the close relation between the style and his newsman life experience, and further explores his contributions to social romantic novels. The chapter ends with a conclusion.Bi Yihong was an accomplished novelist and newsman. Despite his short life, he had made some extraordinary achievements in novel writing and pictorial design. The defects in his design represented the hardships and limits of the cultural men in running newspaper and writing in modern times. In a manner of speaking, Bi Yihong was a mirror of his contemporary newsman writer group.
