Coping styles and resilience are all related closely to people's stress coping. Coping styles are the symble of dealing with problems or challenges successfully, whilst resilience is a concept of mental flexibility as to one's successful adaptation to adversity. Anyway, they two are very important to help adolescents for preparing well to their future, because adolescense is a key period to develop the ability of human survival. Urban-rural dual system is the unique political and economic phenomena in our China, but since now there are few studies considering the difference between urban and rural adolescents'coping styles and resilience, to say nothing of put them two into the modle of life events and mental health then observe their opreationg mechanism. So this research is about the difference between adolescents'coping styles, resilience, life events and mental health in both urban and rural areas, and also examining the opreating mechanism of resilience and coping styles in the modle of life events and mental health. In other word, to explore the real effect of coping styles and resilience, and make clear whether it is mediating effect or moderating effect. We compare cases in both urban and rural areas based on previous studies, and then use the method of hierarchical regression to explore the mediating effect and moderating effect played by coping styles and resilience. The results of this study are as follows:1. The resilience and coping style of students in both urban and rural middle schools are in good condition.2. In the contrast study about differences between coping styles in both urban and rural areas, we discover that the students in rural middle school are more tend to use the problem-solving coping style than those in urban middle school, whereas urban students are more often to adopt emotional coping than rural students.3. In the contrast study about differences between resilience in both urban and rural areas, rural students gain more points than urban students in the dimensions of high expectations from family and self-awareness.4. In the contrast study about differences between life events and mental health in both urban and rural areas, rural students are faced more life events whilst urban students are at a comparatively low level in mental health.5. Problem-focused coping is of no effect in the modle of middle school students'life events and mental health, yet emotion-focused coping plays the partial mediation in the modle of middle school students' life events and mental health.6. In the modle of middle school students' life events and mental health, resilience plays the moderating effect between emotion-focused coping and mental health.7. In the urban-rural comparative study of mediating effects and moderating effects, problem-focused coping is still of no effect in both urban and rural modles, and emotion-focused coping only plays the partial mediation in the rural modle. Resilience plays the moderating effects between both life events and emotion-focused coping or emotion-focused coping and mental health in rural middle school students.Throughout previous studies and the results of this study, we make proposals as follows:1. Developing more effective intervention of coping styles and resilience of juniors in middle schools to promote their psychological flexiblity.2. As to the intervention of adolescents' coping styles and resilience, we can start from the external environment changes. To give examples, a harmonious atmosphere in family, a comprehensive and multi-angle-accurate evaluation from schools, the social aspects of humane care to enhance self-esteem, and so on.3. We should led particular attention to rural students, because they face an even worse external atmosphere than urban students, and we can also see that the moderating effect of resilience playing a more important role in the rural modle. How to launch comprehensive measures to intervene coping styles and resilience of rural middle school students and promote their level of psychological flexibility, it is a urgent problem to be solved in our urban-rural dual system.
