The article collected a large number of errors on Indonesian students learn the Modal Verb “neng/hui/keyi”, through questionnaire, HSK dynamic composition Corpus and composition of Indonesian students, and classified the errors into six types, substitute, omission, improper denial, surplus, incorrect order and others.This article will analysis the errors on Indonesian students learn Modal Verb“neng/hui/keyi” from the perspectives of intralingual transfer and interlingual transfer.Firstly, on the perspectives of intralingual transfer, this article distinguished the similarities and differences between the Modal Verb “neng/hui/keyi” in semantics, syntactic features and pragmatic function. In aspect of semantics, this article summarized the dominant meaning of“neng/hui/keyi” as prerequisite of achieving something, possibility and permission. In aspect of syntactic features,this article discussed the common prerequisites on “neng/hui/keyi”, asymmetry of positive and negative forms and the special usage on “keyi”. In aspect of pragmatic function, this article analyzed the behavioral function and speculative function on different meanings of “neng/hui/keyi”, and explanation the errors of substitute between“neng”/”hui”/”keyi”.Secondly, on the perspectives of intralingual transfer, this article compared Modal Verb “neng/hui/keyi” with “bisa/boleh/dapat/mampu/sanggup/mungkin”in Indonesian language from semantics, syntactic features and pragmatic function,which express the meaning of possibility. The contrast of the semantics is on the basis of the corresponding to the meaning of “neng/hui/keyi” and“bisa/boleh/dapat/mampu/sanggup/mungkin”. From this point of view this article analyzed the learning difficulty of the Modal Verb “neng/hui/keyi”. The contrast of the syntactic features discussed the word order, negative form and the situation modified by adverbs etc.The conclusions are the word order is same in affirmative sentence between Chinese sentences with “neng/hui/keyi” and Indonesian language with words have possible meaning. But in interrogative sentences of Indonesian language, the words with possible meaning should be prepended. And the affirmative and negative forms are consistent in Indonesian language. The coverage of the words with possible meaning in Indonesian language is wider than“neng/hui/keyi” on the pragmatic functions. It will cause the errors by differentiation when Indonesian students learn “neng/hui/keyi”.On the basis of discrimination about “neng/hui/keyi” and intralingual contrast,this article analyzed the errors on Indonesian students learn the Modal Verb “neng/hui/keyi”. According to the causes of the errors, this article put forward the teaching suggestions.
