Objective:(1) To explore the characteristic of adolescents’ depressive symptoms, rumination and level of mindfulness; to investigate the relation between mindfulness, rumination and depressive symptoms; to provide a theoretical basis for intervention.(2)To investigate the impact of mindfulness training on a adolescent community sample who has depressive symptoms in area of rumination, and expand the scope of application of mindfulness training to provide the experience for future intervention. Methods: In the first study, Participates were draw from adolescents in different classes and grades of a middle school and a technical secondary school and were required to complete three questionnaires which included Center for Epidemiological Studies Depression Scale, Rumination Response Scale and Five Facet Mindfulness Questionnaire. In the second study, based upon the first study, 20 adolescents who had depressive symptoms and got high rumination were draw from the previous tests as examinees, they were randomly divided into 2 groups, experimental group and controlled group, 10 for each. The experimental group were intervened by mindfulness trainings conducted though 8 weeks, twice a week, one for an hour, and the participants were required to fulfill home training tasks after whereas the controlled group were not intervened. The research were conducted by pre- and posttest, data was analyzed by t test, non-parametric test and correlation analysis.Results:(1) The majority of adolescents’ depressive symptoms were under the normal range, only a small group suffered serve symptoms of depression. The allover level of rumination of adolescent remained low and of mindfulness was in medium level.(2) There showed no significant differences among depressive symptoms, rumination and mindfulness level in the dimension of different sex, only child or non-only child, single parent family or non-single parent family, different parents educational background.(3) There was a negative correlation between adolescents’ rumination, depressive symptoms and mindfulness, There was a positive correlation between depressive symptoms and rumination.(4) Being intervened by mindfulness group training, the total score of experimental group on mindfulness were obviously higher than controlled group, the total score of experimental group on rumination were obviously lower than controlled group; the total score of experimental group on depressive symptoms were obviously lower than controlled group.Conclusions:(1) There was a positive correlation between depressive symptoms and rumination. There was a negative correlation between adolescents’ depressive symptoms and rumination.(2) Mindfulness group training had positive impacts on adolescents who had depressive symptoms, by training their level of mindfulness would be enhanced while response style of rumination would be changed, depressive symptoms would be removed.(3) Mindfulness group training has a longterm impacts. |
