An Analytical Approach To Conference Interpretation Barriers And Solutions

With China’s accelerating economic development, strengthening comprehensive national strength, enhancing international influence and ever close global communication and cooperation, Chinese have frequently participated in the international conferences and business negotiations of different levels and fields. Among these activities, the most commonly used languages are English and Chinese. The quality of the conference interpretation lays a huge effect on the result of the conference. Therefore, the interpreters shoulder important responsibilities.Although interpretation seems to be an easy job, it is very difficult to interpret without any mistake. During the conference interpretation, there are many factors affecting the quality, such as high pressure, tense atmosphere, preparations of the interpreters, terms and accents. On these occasions, the interpreters are easily interfered, therefore, it is commonly seen that the interpreters cannot understand the source language, letting alone putting it into the target language. This paper will systematically analyse the factors that affecting the interpreters.This paper is a project report. Based on the six months’ internship in Nanjing Youth Olympic Games Committee from September,2012 to January,2013,1 have made analysis of the conference interpretation, concluded my theories about the conference interpretation and conducted theoretical analysis on the problems. The NYOGC conference interpretation is not the simply repetition of languages, but a task full of intensive workload. Factors like a quality short-term memory, note-taking ability and quick reaction will enable an interpreter to understand the speakers quickly and express the original meaning accurately in a very short time. This report will analyse these factors and find out the reasons of generating listening comprehension barriers for the purpose of raising the solutions. All of the above work will facilitate the interpreters to know their advantages and disadvantages. Only through relevant training, can the interpreters overcome their shortcomings and make contribution to the interpreting career.
