The Chinese-English translation report is based on the book Qingcheng Hookah, one of the most representatives of Qingcheng Town Intangible Cultural Heritage Protection Series, which is the first series books Lanzhou Municipal Government has excavated and protected the old town culture. It aims at publicity and introduction of Qingcheng Old Town intangible cultural heritage protection and helps foreign readers come to know the history of the origin, development, prosperity and decline of Qingcheng Hookah through the translation practice. And this report stresses on the origin, basic characteristics, legends, cultural function, important value, excavation and protection of Qingcheng Hookah.According to Newmark’s classification of text typology, the source text belongs to informative text, which is concerned with cultural historical information. So the translation of the source text chiefly adopted the translation strategy of communicative translation. In addition, because the source text stresses on Chinese historical and cultural information, the author adopted Vermeer’s Skopos theory as the chief translation theory and applied the translation strategy of domestication to implement this project. During the course of translation, the author used a series of translation techniques so as to ensure the accuracy, fluency and coherency of the target text which is to attract the foreign readers. The report is divided into five parts. The first part is the introduction of the report, which introduces the background of the translation project and the significance of the translation. The second part is the project description, which includes the source of the text, analysis of the text characteristics and structure, requirements from the entrusting party. The third part is the translation process, which has three stages including formulation of the translation plan, choosing translation tools and resources,information-searching and choosing translation theory and methods in the pre-translation preparation;quality control, process description and details of the translation in the course of translation; feedback from the entrusting party and self-evaluation in the course of post-translation. The fourth part is case analysis. The fifth part is conclusion and translation reflection, in which the author states the deficiencies and reflection in this translation practice in order to provide some references and suggestions for others on cultural informative text translation.
